When it comes to Australian agriculture, ‘The North’ surely has to be one of the most exciting regions when it comes to developing new opportunities. From Northern WA and the NT to Northern Queensland, farming in Northern Australia, our ‘Last Frontier’ is not for the faint of heart. Witnessing the emergence of a cotton industry around Kunnunnurra, Katherine and Julia Creek shows the extent of the opportunities but, at the same time, also the unprecedented challenges that growers face in the North.

As we head into the busy summer cropping season, it’s the perfect time to give your sensors and systems a quick tune-up. A little preparation now helps ensure your INCYT deployment runs in peak condition—delivering accurate insights, smooth irrigation, and reliable reporting when you need it most. 🔧 Pre-Season Sensor Checks
A quick look over your gear can make all the difference for a seamless season.
All Sensors
- Check cable protection – use sheathing like split conduit. Example: Corrugated split tubing.
- If you’ve had bird damage, bird spikes are a worthwhile extra safeguard. Example: Stainless Steel Pest Control Bird Spike
Blue Nodes
- Ensure cable connections are secure.
- Check the antenna is firmly attached and undamaged.
Weather Stations & Rain Gauges
- INCYT recommends a simple monthly clean: clear dust, cobwebs, insects, and droppings from the rain bucket.

💧 Ultrasonic Level Sensors (Irrigation, Creeks & Dams)
- Confirm brackets are secure and Blue Nodes have line of sight to the base station.
- Use Blue Node extension cables if needed to raise a Blue Node above for better line of sight to its nearest base station. You can find these in our webshop here.
- Clear spider webs, then apply a surface spray like WD40 or spider spray around the sensor cone and bracket.
- Make sure the sensor is level and positioned above the water with no obstructions.
🌾 Soil Moisture Probes
- For seasonal probes going in now:
- Check cable protection.
- Create an application for the new probe location if needed.
- Link the probe with its application within the INCYT app. If you're unsure how, checkout this quick tutorial here.
- Plan probe placement in advance—our team can support with installation & extraction kits for self-install.
📲 Smarter Alerts for Smarter Farming
- Set alerts at device or application level for parameters like fill levels, usage trends, or weather changes.
- New this season: activate offline device alerts per Blue Node.
- Go to Devices → select Blue Node → Alarms → Configure Alarm → toggle on Device Offline.
- Choose who gets notified via SMS or email.
